What you’ll learn

Skills and knowledge developed in this course.

  • RHEL installation and content access
  • RPM, DNF and software lifecycle
  • Users, sudo and enterprise access
  • NetworkManager and firewalld
  • systemd and scheduled operations
  • SELinux policy operation
  • LVM, XFS and network mounts
  • RHEL maintenance and recovery

About this course

Administer a RHEL environment with RPM and DNF, NetworkManager, systemd, SELinux, firewalld and LVM. This is a distribution-focused operations course; RHCSA Preparation is the separate assessment-readiness track.

Who this is for

Administrators moving to RHEL, enterprise Linux support staff and engineers maintaining RHEL workloads.

Before you start

Comfort with the Linux shell, permissions, processes and basic TCP/IP. Appropriate RHEL lab access is required.

Applied learning outcome

Build a RHEL application server with persistent storage and enforced access controls

Provide a package and repository record, NetworkManager connection, firewalld policy, SELinux-aware service configuration and a reboot-validation checklist.

Curriculum

Course content

8 modules · 8 topics

Course-specific syllabus and practical exercises. Lab release, access arrangements and final delivery scope are confirmed before enrolment.

01

RHEL installation and content access

  • Identify release, architecture and system role.
  • Understand subscription access, repositories and the difference between package installation and entitled content access.

Practical exerciserecord the RHEL lab baseline and inspect available repositories.

02

RPM, DNF and software lifecycle

  • Query RPM ownership and package metadata.
  • Install, update and remove packages with DNF while reviewing dependencies.

Practical exerciseinstall a service and document its package and repository provenance.

03

Users, sudo and enterprise access

  • Manage local accounts, groups, password ageing and default permissions.
  • Validate delegated commands and SSH key authentication.

Practical exerciseconfigure an operator account with a restricted administration workflow.

04

NetworkManager and firewalld

  • Manage persistent connections with nmcli.
  • Apply firewalld zones and service rules while retaining authorised administration access.

Practical exerciseconfigure a static connection and expose only the intended service.

05

systemd and scheduled operations

  • Manage service state, boot targets, journals and timers.
  • Configure persistent journal collection and scheduled maintenance.

Practical exercisebuild a service health check driven by a systemd timer.

06

SELinux policy operation

  • Distinguish modes, contexts, port labels and Boolean settings.
  • Investigate denials and restore appropriate labels rather than disabling enforcement.

Practical exerciseserve content from a non-default path with the required SELinux configuration.

07

LVM, XFS and network mounts

  • Provision logical volumes and persistent filesystem mounts.
  • Practise filesystem growth and NFS client mounting in the lab.

Practical exerciseextend an application data volume and verify its contents after reboot.

08

RHEL maintenance and recovery

  • Review bootloader changes, package-related faults and system health evidence.
  • Plan a configuration rollback and document recovery checks.

Practical exerciserecover an incorrect service configuration and demonstrate the completed RHEL build.
